Weaving

2019 - SXSW. Austin, Tx.

Weaving is a light installation commissioned by SXSW, where I collaborated as a Creative Director with Cocolab. The intention behind this experience was to describe the process of a Mexican loom in an abstract journey inspired by the stories told in my hometown of Oaxaca, Mexico. This contemplative work of art recreates the mesmerizing shapes and colors of the textiles produced by Mexican artisans.

This light sculpture is mounted as a giant “canvas” made of strings, painted explicitly with narrative light and sound, using a complex mapping technique. The artwork invites the audience to have a reflective experience through the abstract process of creating a loom that goes from a divine to an earthly world.

Weaving was first showcased at the Austin Convention Center during the 2019 South by Southwest festival as part of its Art Program. It quickly became a must-see piece, reaching more than two million media impressions in one week.
